The Australian Government has rolled out major changes to the New Energy Apprenticeships Program (NEAP) to better equip automotive apprentices and businesses for the upcoming surge of electric vehicles.
With 2 million+ EVs expected on roads by 2030, the changes will ensure apprentices are EV-ready through hands-on exposure and training, backed by generous financial incentives.
From 1 June 2024, businesses only need to provide meaningful EV experience to qualify apprentices for up to $10,000 in support payments. Employers also get wage subsidies until 30 June 2024 and a hiring incentive after. These measures complement the $60m charging fund and more support is coming.
